McMinn landfill to convert gas

Chattanooga Times Free Press / September 30, 2011

Renewco LLC, a joint venture between AGL Resources and Keystone Renewable Energy, dedicated a new $9 million renewable energy facility at the Meadow Branch Landfill in McMinn County on Thursday.

The methane recovery plant captures the gas produced by the decomposition of solid waste in the landfill, and converts it to pipeline-quality renewable gas.

The facility, the first of its kind in East Tennessee, "is a rare opportunity to turn waste into a potential revenue stream while creating green jobs and reducing impacts to the environment," said Ira Pearl, chief executive for Renewco.
